Unveiled at the New York International Auto Show, the Cadillac CT6 and its bold presence combined with its techy presentation made quite the impact, with some labeling it a “game-changer.” The CT6 boasts a techy’s dream, featuring futuristic night vision settings, automated parking, a 34-Bose Audio system, a 10″ touchscreen interface complete with 4G LTE and WiFi hotspot, and an impressive 360-degree camera view that includes a video-streaming Rear Camera Mirror (an industry first) that allows for a complete view of the CT6 when in motion. Perhaps what’s most impressive about the CT6 and what is sure to be a trend among newer models is its buoyancy, or the lightness of its build. Through innovative design, the CT6 manages to attain that luxurious light-heavyweight feel and performance.
It’s back! The Acura NSX comes redesigned for 2016, after over a decade of being resigned to a highly-praised and much-admired but dusty sports car relic. The latest NSX promises, however, that if nothing else: the wait was worth it. Its all-new twin-turbocharged V6 engine, supplemented with a 3-motor drive system and a 9-speed transmission is set to ensure the NSX’s acceleration will be more than impressive. Full details are not yet available but the NSX’s total system output should be somewhere “north of 550 hp.” Priced at around $150,000, the vehicle, for all the hoorah surround it, represents something of a bargain.
Chevy pulled the sheets off the latest Camaro iteration earlier this month in Detroit, Michigan, showcasing a model that looks not too different from the old but with enough updated components under the hood to make this a worthy addition to the series. The 2016 Camaro will sport a 2.0 liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine that achieves an impressive total of 275 horsepower and a 3.6L V-6 engine clocking in at 355 horses. Following with an increasing trend in shaving off some pounds off past models, the new Camaro is slightly smaller and weighs in at 200 pounds lighter.
The new Mercedes Benz AMG GT model is elegant inside and out, opting for a sleek and mature look that does away with some of the more fanciful features of previous models (goodbye vertical-opening doors!) But the GT makes up for it with an increase in sophistication, a great emphasis on safety, and a robust, improved 4.0-liter 456-horsepower V8 engine, reaching 0-to-100 km/h in just 3.8 seconds. In what’s sure to be a fun feature: the GT allows for customizable sound features so you can switch back and forth between a roaring engine or a quieter and smoother cruise. Ultimately, the GT’s clever engineering allows it to be a dominant racehorse while remaining a classy option that feels as good as it drives.
Finally, we present the Scion iM. While not the fanciest among any of the above, the iM provides a more affordable option (with a predicted starting value of less than $20,000) that is nonetheless sure to turn a few heads around while on the road. Keeping with Scion tradition, the iM comes configured to a single-spec model and is packed with a number of features that are sure to satisfy driver and passenger alike. Along with an elaborate accident-avoidance system, the iM is set to make driving a comfortable and safe experience with its acoustic windshield that blocks any noise from outside, a 7 inch touchscreen, and more.
All signs are pointing to another excellent year for the automotive industry in 2016, with the hottest new models ensuring that an entertaining ride awaits us all.
